The New York State Department of Health will not be taking any further action regarding a playground in the Village of Wappingers that was found to have lead in the soil.

Temple Park was temporarily closed last summer due to a report claiming old cable hanging about the park had contaminated the soil with lead. The DOH tested the soil and found no evidence, based on nationally recommended screening levels, of elevated or widespread contamination.

However, last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it was lowering those recommended screening levels for lead in soil at residential properties where children live and play.
